Melchor Bernardo | English Teacher | Edu Blogger

Melchor Bernardo

Hi and welcome!

My name is Melchor – pronounced as [meltʃər] as in “archer” not “anchor”. But my students simply call me Teacher Mel.

Originally from the Philippines, I’m currently based in Hochiminh City, Vietnam as a middle school teacher specialized in teaching English as a second language. I love teaching and this website is a bit of copy of my teaching styles and philosophy.

My passion for teaching flows through the lessons and activities I provide my students everyday. I thought about becoming a lawyer once, but my heart needs to teach. I love it!

I created this blog as a journal – to keep track of the activities I do in my class! I always challenge myself to be innovative and inventive in my English classroom so I try my best to create lessons that are tailored to the needs and abilities of my students. The use of fun language games, engaging activities and projects, and technology is indispensable in my classroom. I also connect my classroom to the world by participating in meaningful exchanges and projects with schools from other countries.

Are we, especially language teachers, entertainers? Absolutely not! I believe that a happy classroom creates a positive predisposition, but it must go beyond that. Teachers shouldn’t try hard for entertainment. Eventually, students will find fun in learning because we try to make learning meaningful to them.

I hope you find my “notes” useful. If you have any questions, comments, suggestions or you simply want to connect with me, you can reach me anytime on my Facebook Page, Instagram or  Twitter.

Have fun teaching!
